MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (March 28, 2024) - In a rematch of last year's NCAA Suepr Regional, the series between Rollins and Barry finished game one in a similar fashion ... a Tars win. With the 9-4 victory, Rollins moves to 17-9 on the season, and 9-4 against the SSC. Barry falls to 17-15, 5-8 SSC.
In the second at bat of the game,
Jack Herring launched a home run down the right field line to put the Tars up early. However, Barry would answer back in the bottom of the second when an error from Rollins allowed an unearned run to score.
Oscar Murray would put the Tars back on top with a solo shot to right in the third inning. The power surge continued in the fifth when
Jose Perez brought in himself and
Stephen Deans with a two-run bomb to right, putting Rollins up 4-1.
As starter
Edward Berry continued to keep the Buccaneer offense at bay, he got one more shot of support when
Matthew Farner doubled home Herring with two outs in the sixth.
Things got interesting in the seventh when a Brandon Forchic three-run shot made it a 5-4 game.
Unphased, the Tar offense went right back to work in the following inning. Herring led off with a double,
Mason Wilson was hit by a pitch, and
Chris Sparber then brought in Herring with a double of his own. After a pitching change, Farner drove in another run with a single.
Jimmy Thies got in on the fun with an RBI groundout, followed by an RBI bunt from Deans to make the final of 9-4.
Jacob Burr, who had entered in the seventh inning, finished out the ninth to earn the three-inning save.
The Rollins offense tallied six extra-base hits in the game, with Herring accounting for a double and a home run. Farner also had two hits, while adding two RBI and a run. Berry turned in a quality start for the win, going six innings while scatering six hits, allowing one unearned run, and striking out three.
These two teams will wrap up the series on Friday with a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
