WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 23, 2024) – Caroline Gastonguay became the leading career scorer in Rollins women's lacrosse history on Saturday night as the 13th-ranked Tars picked up a 14-10 win over visiting No. 19 Florida Tech in a non-conference matchup between the two SSC foes. The Tars are now 10-2 while the Panthers drop to 6-4.
Caroline Gastonguay led the Tars with three goals and two assists, giving her 323 career points. Her second goal of the game moved her ahead of Kallie German (2016-19), who held the previous record with 318 points.
Madison McGarry added three goals while
Jorie Alf and
Molly Mendes each had a goal, two assists, and three ground balls.
Lily Thornewill had a game- and career-high six caused turnovers to go along with a team- and career-high five ground balls.
Anya Studebaker (9-2) made five saves on the 15 shots she faced.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- Alf opened the scoring at the 11:41 mark, with Caroline Gastonguay doubling the lead a minute later.
- Charlotte Gastonguay made it 3-0 at the 5:52 mark before Florida Tech stormed back with three straight goals to close out the quarter tied 3-3.
Second Quarter
- Sydney Nickel put the Tars back in front just 27 seconds into the second quarter.
- Caroline Gastonguay netted her second goal of the game at the 11:51 mark, which made it 5-3 and pushed her name to the top of the Tars' all-time scoring list.
- Gabby Yerardi and McGarry followed that with back-to-back goals, increasing the lead to 7-3.
- The Panthers scored the next two before Holyn Trautwein found the back of the net to make it 8-5.
- Florida Tech scored in the closing minutes to close the gap to 8-6 at the half.
Third Quarter
- The Panthers got to within a goal just over three minutes into the third, but Rollins responded by outscoring the visitors 3-0 over the rest of the quarter.
- McGarry, Caroline Gastonguay, and Carsyn Christel all scored to lift the Tars to an 11-7 lead after three quarters.
Fourth Quarter
- Christel opened the scoring in the fourth to make it 12-7.
- Florida Tech got one back but Mendes quickly answered less than a minute later to keep the lead at five goals (13-8).
- The Panthers scored a pair late to make it 13-10 but McGarry put the game away with her third of the night in the final minute, securing the 14-10 victory.
