WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 20, 2024) - Women's tennis faced their seventh straight ranked D-II opponent on Wednesday, falling to the #2 Nova Southeastern Sharks by a score of 6-1. The loss drops Rollins to 4-8 on the year, with a 1-4 record in the SSC.
Doubles saw courts one and two go to the Sharks with little resistance from the Tars. However, Rollins received a confidence boost on number three where
Katie Groves/
Eve Wasil fought past Ita Habekovic/Patricie Kubikova, 6-3.
In singles play, the #4 ranked Natalie Espinal made it past
Polina Vlasova on court one, but
Milla Falster played equalizer with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Habekovic on court six.
Unfortunately, the Sharks would capture the remaining courts to end with a 6-1 win. While all the other matches finished in two sets, the battle on court two was epic between
Nancy Liu and #8 Alexandra Weir. After Weird took the first set, the Rollins freshman bounced back with a 7-6 (7) tiebreak win. That led to a third and deciding set, which was taken by Weird, 10-4.
Nova Southeastern has now beaten Rollins in five straight matches dating back to 2019
Rollins will get a nine-day break before hitting the courts again on Friday, March 29 against Academy of Art. First serve is scheduled for 11:00 am from Winter Park.
