WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 2, 2024) - Men's basketball wrapped up their season, and five players wrapped up their careers, in an 87-77 win over Barry (15-13, 8-12 SSC) on Saturday evening. The win gives the Tars a final record of 9-18, 6-14 SSC.
Both teams got off to a scorching start, pouring in points at will.
Sergey Grishaev opened the game with a three, followed by a
Kyle Marion layup, a
Matheus Silveira baby hook, and a Marion three to go up 10-5.
The highlight of the game happened just under the thirteen-minute mark when
Braxton Barnhizer lofted a no look pass towards the rim that Silveira grabbed mid-air and slammed on a Barry defender. Not only did Silveira finish the poster dunk, he was also fouled and converted the three-point play.
Barry fought back to tie the game at 28, and then took a 31-30 lead at 9:18. They would grow their lead to as high as five, but Rollins was able to stick around thanks to timely buckets from the likes of
Cade Long and Marion. The Bucs would take a 46-42 into the locker room at halftime.
Similar to the first half, Grishaev opened the second with a triple. A few minutes later, his mid-range jumper would give the Tars the lead back at 51-50. From that point on, Rollins would not trail in the game again.
Silveira gave the Bucs bigs a steady dose of post moves to keep his point total rolling, with help from Marion's ability to drive to the rim. A pair of late dunks from Grishaev would seal the win for Rollins, 87-77.
Rollins received a fantastic effort from Silveira in his final game with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Grishaev was equally impressive with a double-double of his own (24 points, 13 rebounds), while Marion added 22. Long and
Rivers Lenholt, the other two seniors who suited up, scored 12 and three points, respectively. Long also added nine assists.
Marion wraps up a successful career that saw him take the court 104 times. He scored 1507 points (18th all-time), dished out 369 assists (8th all-time), and racked up 159 steals (10th all-time).
Silveira finds himself on in tenth on the Rollins blocks list, despite playing only two seasons, with 64 swats.
