WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 12, 2024) - Baseball saw their modest five-game win streak snapped on Tuesday afternoon by the Bradley Braves, who defeated the Tars 12-3. Rollins now stands at 11-8 on the season.
Bradley poured it on early and often in the top of the first, tagging starter
Evan Cornelius for five hits and seven runs. After punching a variety of singles through the infield, the Braves got a jolt from leadoff man Ryan Vogel, who hit a grand slam in his second at bat of the inning to make it 8-0.
Bradley added two more runs in the second on four hits to go up double digits.
With the score 11-0 in the sixth, Rollins showed signs of life.
Mason Wilson was hit by a pitch, followed by a single from
Stephen Deans and a walk to
Jack Herring to load the bases. An RBI groundout from
Nathan Tinder scored the first Tars run, and a second came around on a
Matthew Farner single.
Each team would score again in the eighth. It was Farner once more providing the offense, this time chopping a ball to third that scored Herring on a fielder's choice.
Farner's two hits and two RBI led the offense for Rollins.
Jose Perez also added a pair of singles from the nine-hole. Cornelius took the loss on the scheduled bullpen day that saw nine different players take the mound fro the Tars.
Ryan Taylor,
Nate Thomas,
Ryan Murphy,
Spencer Mangum, and
Jack Haynes all had scoreless innings for Rollins.
The Tars will be back to SSC play this weekend when they host Lynn University in Winter Park. First pitch on Friday March 15 is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
