No. 11 Embry-Riddle Nips No. 7 Rollins, 16-15

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 1, 2024) – The seventh-ranked Rollins women's lacrosse team suffered its first defeat of 2024 on Friday night, falling at No. 11 Embry-Riddle, 16-15. The Tars are now 6-1 overall and 2-1 in SSC play, while the Eagles go to 5-1 overall, 1-0 in conference games.
 
Caroline Gastonguay led all players with six goals, while Lauren Noonan chipped in with three goals. Holyn Trautwein had a team-high six draw controls and Ashley Goldstein led all players with three caused turnovers and tied for the game-high with four ground balls. Anya Studebaker (5-1) took the loss, making seven saves on 23 shots in a full 60 minutes of action.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • Aleksa Allen opened the scoring just 59 seconds into the game.
  • After an ERAU goal, Caroline Gastonguay netted two straight followed by a Noonan goal to make it 4-1 Tars.
  • Noonan then answered the second Eagle goal with her second to put Rollins up 5-2.
  • The offenses kept clicking, with Embry-Riddle scoring less than a minute later, followed by Katie Bell scoring a minute after that to make it 6-3.
  • Caroline Gastonguay scored two more times before the quarter came to an end, with two ERAU goals sandwiched between, making it an 8-5 game after just 15 minutes of play.
Second Quarter
  • Embry-Riddle caught fire in the second quarter, scoring five straight goals before Charlotte Gastonguay put home the only Tar goal of the period, pushing ERAU to a 10-9 halftime lead.
Third Quarter
  • The defenses took over in the third quarter, as the two teams combined for just four goals in the period.
  • Madison McGarry tied things at 13 at the 13:29 mark before Embry-Riddle responded with two straight goals.
  • Sydney Nickel scored with 3:02 to go to make it a one-goal deficit once again, and the Eagles would maintain the 12-11 lead going to the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
  • Embry-Riddle scored first in the final frame before Caroline Gastonguay found the back of the net once again, as her fifth of the game made it 13-12.
  • After an Eagle goal, Jorie Alf and Noonan got the next two markers, tying the game at 14 with 8:20 to go.
  • An ERAU goal with 5:33 on the clock put the home team up by one, but Caroline Gastonguay stepped up with a man-up goal at the 2:31 mark to tie things at 15.
  • Embry-Riddle was able to answer back with a goal 26 seconds later, and the Eagles kept the Tars at bay for the final two minutes, holding on for the 16-15 win.
