No. 7 Rollins Extinguishes Flames

CLEVELAND, Tenn. (February 6, 2024) – The seventh-ranked Rollins women's lacrosse team defeated Lee in its season opener on Tuesday afternoon, 21-12. The Tars are now 1-0 on the year, while the Flames drop to 1-1.
 
Lauren Noonan led all players with six goals and seven points to go along with two caused turnovers and a ground ball. Caroline Gastonguay and Aleka Allen each added three goals and an assist, with Gastonguay also picking up a team-high four ground balls along with two caused turnovers. Molly Mendes chipped in with two goals and an assist, while Holyn Trautwein collected a game-high 14 draw controls. Anya Studebaker (1-0) got the win in goal, stopping 10 of 22 shots that she faced, playing the full 60 minutes.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • Noonan opened the scoring just over a minute in, and just over a minute later she assisted on Jorie Alf's first goal of the season to make it 2-0.
  • After a Lee goal, Rollins rattled off three straight, including markers from Katie Bell, Caroline Gastonguay, and Noonan.
  • The Flames got the next two goals to make it 5-3, but Caroline Gastonguay and Abigail DeGroat netted goals in the final 24 seconds of the quarter to give the Tars a 7-3 edge after the first 15 minutes.
Second Quarter
  • The Blue and Gold were nearly unstoppable in the second, running out to a 13-3 lead thanks to six straight goals, including three tallies from Noonan.
  • Lee scored twice before Caroline Gastonguay put home the final goal of the first half, pushing the Rollins lead to 14-5 at the break.
Third Quarter
  • The Flames scored the first three goals of the second half before Noon and Alf each scored woman-up goals to make it 16-8.
  • Mendes and Allen each added markers alternating with Lee goals, giving the Tars an 18-10 lead heading to the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
  • Rollins scored three straight goals in the fourth bookended by Flames' goals, as the Tars cruised to a 21-12 win.
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will be back in action on Friday, February 9, as the face Alabama – Huntsville in a neutral-site contest at Montevallo.
