Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Tars Outdueled by Knights

Lynn defeated Rollins 98-81 on Wednesday evening

BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 21, 2024) - A late run from Lynn in the final five minutes turned a close game into a 17-point win for the Knights over Rollins. With the loss, the Tars move to 8-17 on the year, with a 5-13 record in SSC play. Lynn improves to 15-8, 10-7 SSC.

Scoring was slow to start for both teams as the game was tied at six at the first media timeout. Coming out of the break, that script changed as the two teams started to convert and trade leads. Sergey Grishaev was big early on, hitting a three to give Rollins their first lead, finishing a layup to tie the game at 13.

The Knights controlled the pace for the next few minutes, but a three from Cade Long and a fastbreak layup from Dylan Wolle off a steal had the game knotted up once again. With under four minutes to go, a Kyle Marion jumper tied the game for a sixth time, and a Matheus Silveira layup gave Rollins their first lead in over twelve minutes.

Lynn would retake the lead at 45-40 with under a minute to go, but Dylan Wolle nailed a three just seconds before the halftime horn to make it 45-43 at the break.

The second half played the same was as the last fifteen minutes of the first, with the teams going blow-for-blow. Silveira threw down a vicious alley-opp on a pass from Braxton Barnhizer to start the second for Rollins. Lynn would get a lead as high ten points, but Marion and Wolle combined to score the next eight Rollins points to whittle it down to four.

At the nine minute mark, Silveira scored from the paint to make it a 70-68 game. Unfortunately, the Rollins offense would start to sputter from there, while the Knights picked up the pace. They continued to pad their lead, and would end the game outscoring the Tars by 15 and go home with a 98-81 win.

Four Tars ended the game in double digits, led by Grishaev's 22. Silveira was good for 20 to go with seven boards and three assists. Marion ended with 13, four, and four, and Cade Long had ten with five assists. Barnhizer only scored two points, but led the team with nine rebounds and ten assists.

Next up for Rollins is a road game at Florida Southern on Wednesday, February 28. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 from Lakeland.
