Lions Take First Game of Series

Saint Leo defeated Rollins 11-3 on Thursday night

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 15, 2024) - Softball dropped their first home game of the season at the hands of the #21 Saint Leo Lions, losing 11-3. Rollins now stands at 5-2 overall, and 0-1 in the SSC. The Lions improve to 6-3, 1-0 SSC.

The Lions didn't waste time getting on the board in the first. With the bases loaded and no outs, Hailey Beuerlein singled through the left side to drive in the first run of the game. The second run came in on a fielding error, and a third run was added on a bases loaded walk.

The Tars struck back for one in the bottom half. Grace Germer led off with a walk, moved to second on a fly out, stole third, and scored on a sac fly from Taylor Waters to make it 3-1.

After a scoreless second, Saint Leo added another in the third with a two-out RBI double. Again, the Tars response was quick as Germer annihilated a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall for a two-run bomb, making the score 4-3.

Unfortunately, a pitching change from the Lions would shut down the Tar offense for the remainder of the evening. Morgan Shannon was called on out of the bullpen, and allowed just one hit for the rest of the game.

Meanwhile, Saint Leo added two in the fifth and three in the seventh to make the final score of 11-3. The Lions were able to take advantage of seven Rollins walks and four errors in the field.

Germer was the standout on offense, reaching base twice, scoring twice, and driving in two.

The two teams will wrap up their series on Friday with an evening doubleheader beginning at 6:00 pm from Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Winter Park.
