No. 7 Tars Fly Past Falcons, 23-3

Six different players tallied four points on Sunday

MONTEVALLO, Alabama (February 11, 2024) – The seventh-ranked Rollins women's lacrosse team wrapped up its season-opening three-game road trip with a 23-3 trouncing of Montevallo on Sunday afternoon. The Tars are now 3-0 on the season, while the Falcons fall to 1-2.
 
Six different Tars recorded four points, led by Aleksa Allen's four-goal performance, in addition to two caused turnovers and three draw controls. Charlotte Gastonguay, Caroline Gastonguay, and Molly Mendes each tallied three goals and an assist, whole Jorie Alf had two goals and two assists, and Madison McGarry added a goal and three assists. Holyn Trautwein collected a game-high seven draw controls in addition to scoring a goal and picking up a pair of ground balls. Anya Studebaker (3-0) got the win in goal, stopping two of the four shots she faced in 30 minutes of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • Caroline Gastonguay opened the scoring 2:27 into the game, with Mendes making it 2-0 just over a minute later.
  • Before the first five minutes had elapsed, Caroline Gastonguay scored her second goal and Katie Bell added one, doubling the lead to 4-0.
  • The Gastonguays got the next three goals, with Caroline scoring the first and Charlotte netting the next two.
  • Mendes got her second of the game to make it 8-0 Tars less than nine minutes into the game.
  • After a Falcon goal broke up the shutout, Rollins put home five more goals, including three from Allen and one each from Alf and Lauren Noonan.
  • Montevallo scored in the final minute of the quarter, making it a 13-2 game after one quarter of play. 
Second Quarter
  • Sydney Nickel scored the first of five Rollins goals in the second, with Mendes, Alf, McGarry, and Grace Ayres all finding the net as well, pushing the Tar lead to 18-2 at the half.
Third Quarter
  • The Blue and Gold kept the pressure on in the second half, with Allen scoring 20 seconds into the third quarter.
  • Carsyn Christel and Charlotte Gastonguay also scored in the third, increasing the margin to 21-2.
Fourth Quarter
  • Christel and Trautwein both scored in the fourth, with Montevallo netting a goal in the closing seconds to account for the 23-3 final score.

The Tars will have a week off before hosting their 2024 home opener against Lincoln Memorial on Sunday, February 18 at 12 p.m.
