LONGWOOD, Fla. (February 11, 2024) - Rollins wrapped up the Panther Invitational on Sunday with an extra-inning, 5-3 win over St. Anselm. Rollins now sits at 5-1 on the season.
The Hawks jumped out to an early lead, scoring twice in the second inning on a single and double. Rollins was able to get one back in the third when
Sarah Young's base hit to right brought home
Ashley Worrell.
St. Anselm had a big opportunity to pad their lead in the fourth as they loaded the bases with three singles. However,
Reese Twiggs was able to hunker down and strike out the next hitter to leave all runners stranded.
With one out in the sixth,
Kaeli Zahradnik doubled to left field, and would steal third with two outs.
Emma Gipple came through in the next at bat, ripping a triple to deep center to tie the game up at two apiece.
Both pitchers would escape the seventh and eighth innings, but the ninth was a different story. With one out,
Jaden Walker singled and stole second base.
Grace Germer was next up, and chopped a ball to third. The throw from the Hawks defender went high, allowing Walker to score, and Germer to head all the way to third.
Marisa Edevane's single would bring in Germer, and two batters later, she would be brought home by a single fro
Ashley Worrell.
Keivana Durand would enter the game with the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth. She forced a ground out that brought in one run, but then struck out the final batter with a heater to end the game at 5-3.
Rollins will open SSC conference play on Friday when they face the #18 Saint Leo Lions. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm from Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Winter Park.
