LONGWOOD, Fla. (February 10, 2024) - Softball suffered their first loss of the young season on Saturday morning, dropping a contest against Auburn Montgomery 4-3. The loss moved the Tars to 2-1 on the year.
After two scoreless innings, the Warhawks found the scoreboard in the third. With two outs, a pair of AUM players walked to load the bases. A third straight walk would force in the first run of the game, and keep the bases loaded. The next hitter chopped a ball to third, but an errant throw from
Brie Michelli allowed all three runners to score unearned runs and make it 4-0.
Rollins looked poised to come back quickly, loading the bases in the bottom half with no outs. A double play ball brought in both
Kaeli Zahradnik and
Grace Germer, but also sucked the life out of the rally. The score was 4-2 after three..
Claire Long homered to lead off the fourth inning, cutting the lead to 4-3, but that would be the end of the offense as the Warhawks locked in from the circle, allowing just one hit in innings five through seven.
Ashley Worrell took the loss despite a strong line of seven innings, three hits, one earned run and eigth strikeouts.
