WINTER PARK, Fla. (December 3, 2024) - Women's basketball cruised to a 75-46 victory over Warner on Tuesday, moving their record to 5-4 on the year.
The first quarter was actually a solid matchup as the two teams traded buckets. A pair of makes from
Faith Newton had Rollins ahead early, but Warner responded with a tree from Kalyah Watson to go up 9-8. The Tars would retake the lead with a
Maddie Dillinger layup and a
Tara Murray three.
Claire Erickson and
Zai Mitchell added makes in the final minute to end the quarter up 19-15.
After Warner hit a free throw to pull within one possession, the Tars went on a quick 8-0 run to create a cushion they would not relinquish. threes from
Emily McIntosh and
Ajalon Gillard set the tone for the remainder of the game, putting Rollins up 27-16. McIntosh would add five more points later in the quarter, followed by a buzzer beater jump shot from
Anna Kimball to make it 38-24 at halftime.
Rollins was on fire coming out of the break, outscoring the Royals 24-10 in the third on 10-13 (77%) shooting. The Tars opened the quarter with a 14-0 run, holding Warner scoreless for the first 5:41 of the period. By the end of the period, it was 62-34 in favor of the Tars.
The first five points of the final period came via free throw for Rollins.
Paris Triplett and Kimball scored the final eight points of the quarter exclusively in the paint, leading to a final score of 75-46.
Thirteen of the fourteen Tars who saw action in the game scored at least one point. Newton led the way with 12 points and five rebounds. McIntosh was good for eleven, including 3-5 shooting from distance.
Aaliyah Irizarry-Perez pulled down ten boards to go with her seven points.
