WINTER PARK, Fla. (December 3, 2024) - Men's basketball picked up their second win in a row, thrashing the Beacon College Blazers by a score fo 114-60. Rollins now stands at 5-3 on the season.
Rollins jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead, and were up 18-5 at the first media timeout. The defense did a great job causing turnovers, and
Emilis Butkus did his part to turn them into points, scoring seven points before the first break.
The Tars held the Blazers to single digits until a three from Jared Carter made it 31-12 with eleven minutes to go in the first half. Whether it was points in the paint, fadeaway jumpers, three pointers, or dunks, Rollins was in their bag on offense. At the halftime horn, it was 64-28.
Rollins shot 72% (26-36) from the floor in the first half, including 7-13 from three-point range.
The second half saw much of the same, but this time it was from the Tar reserves.
Dylan Wolle took advantage of his extra playing time, pouring in fifteen during the second half with a dazzling display of accuracy on his jump shots. Freshman
William Jobe showed promise going 7-10 from the floor, while
Michael Niemann added a career-high ten.
The biggest ovation came with under three minutes to play when
Caleb Samuel found himself on the floor, and quickly converted a layup for his first career points. He would add a pair of free throws and an assist as well.
Every Rollins player that saw the floor made it into the scorebook, with five Tars reaching double digits. The team was 45-72 (62.5%) from the floor, and had 28 assists on the night. A shout out goes to Jared Carter of Beacon, who led all scorers with 25 points on 10-16 shooting.
Next up for the Tars is the first road game of the season. Rollins will travel south to Miami Shores to face the Barry Buccaneers. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm, following the women's game, on Saturday, December 7.
