Tars Wrap Regular Season with Draw

Rollins and Florida Southern played to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday night

LAKELAND, Fla. (November 6, 2024) - Women's soccer wrapped up their regular season with a tie against Florida Southern on Wednesday. The 2-2 draw gives the Tars a 8-4-2 record (5-3-1 SSC) while Florida Southern finishes their season 4-6-5 (1-5-4 SSC).

Rollins was the first to strike just seven minutes into the match. Lizzie Hill crossed a ball into the box, where it found Briyah Drayton and a Mocs defender. The ball bounced off Drayton and landed near Emma Griner, who swiftly put a shot on target, sneaking it past the diving keeper.

More than an hour of game time passed with no further scoring, but the final 15 minutes of play were full of excitement.

In the 75th minute, a seemingly harmless ball was put into the Rollins box, but a failed clearance led to a wide open shot for Jasmin Adames, who tied the game.

Just seven minutes later, the Mocs took the lead. Morgan Elliott launched a perfect cross towards the Tars' goal. Ashley Shimberg was waiting, and beat Lauren Mehos with a shot that gave Southern the lead with only nine minutes to play.

With the game on the line, Rollins had one more attack in them. Ally Shultz did a great job beating two Moc defenders down the sideline, and then sent a ball in. While expecting Drayton to receive the pass, the defense crashed on her, but she let the ball go past. It ended up at the feet of Kayla Park, who popped it into the net with just 80 seconds to play to tie the game.

Thanks to a Nova Southeastern draw with Embry-Riddle, the Tars remain as the #2 seed in the SSC. The Sharks have one more game, on Friday at Eckerd. If they win, they will jump into the two seed, and Rollins will fall to three before Monday's opening round playoff game.
