WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 12, 2024) - Women's basketball came out of the gates hot, executed tremendously on defense, and walked away with a convincing 75-48 win over Palm Beach Atlantic on Tuesday. The Tars now stand at 1-2, 1-1 SSC while the Sailfish fall to 0-3, 0-1 SSC.
Rollins scored on their first three possessions of the game while forcing PBA into a miss and two turnovers to set the tone early. After going up 7-0, the Sailfish got on the board, but the Tars responded with a 10- run to go up 17-2.
Zai Mitchell would score on a pair of layups in the final minute to make it 21-4 after one.
Tara Murray led the second with a three, followed by a free throw from
Aaliyah Irizarry-Perez. The Fish were able to score on back-to-back possessions for the first time in the game shortly after, but Rollins was relentless on offense. Threes were raining down from the guards, while
Maddie Dillinger and
Paris Triplett converted on plays in the paint. By the time halftime rolled around, it was 46-16 in favor of the Tars.
Rollins shot 18-34 (52%) in the first half, including 9-14 (64%) from three. Meanwhile, the Sailfish could only manage 7-29 form the floor and 2-11 from three.
Things evened out in the third quarter as each team put up 17 points.
Faith Newton had four points and
Ajalon Gillard added five to pace the Rollins offense.
The Rollins bench was cleared in the fourth, giving valuable playing time to the freshmen on the team.
Paris Triplett took full advantage, scoring the first four points of the period for the Tars.
Tara Murray added two threes, and
Anna Kimball knocked down a pair of free throws late to get into the box score. Though turnovers were a bit of a problem in the fourth, Rollins held on for the blowout victory.
Three different Tars ... Newton,
Kaitlyn Sanders, and Murray ... led the team with eleven points. A total of twelve different players scored, while all fifteen saw action on the floor. The team shot 43% from te field and hit twelve total threes.
Next up for the Tars is another home game on Monday, November 18. Rollins will host Puerto Rico Mayaguez, with tipoff scheduled for 6:00 pm.
