Tars Bitten by Mocs

WINTER PARK, Fla. (Nov. 1, 2024) – The Rollins volleyball team fell in three sets to visiting Florida Southern on Friday night, 25-18, 25-18, 25-21. With the loss, the Tars are now 12-11 overall and 3-9 in SSC matches, while the Mocs improve to 11-7, 5-5 in conference play.
 
Lana Gerard and Emma Gongora paced Rollins with nine kills apiece, with Gerard adding nine digs and three blocks as well. Adriana Lopez led the Blue and Gold with 11 digs and Natalie Horsley compiled a match-best 25 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
  • Rollins took an early 6-3 lead before FSC bounced back with a 7-2 run to go up 10-8.
  • The Mocs built their lead to 18-12, but the Tars rallied with five straight points to get within one at 18-17.
  • After trading sideouts, Florida Southern rattled off the last six points of the frame to win it, 25-18.
Set Two
  • Set two saw the Mocs run out to an early 13-5 edge, which they maintained throughout the set.
  • The Blue and Gold had a late 6-1 run to make it 23-18, but FSC won the final two points to clinch the set, 25-18.
Set Three
  • In the third frame, the visitors scored six of the first seven points and quickly built a 10-3 lead.
  • Rollins scored five points in a row to make it 10-8, and a little while later a 4-0 run brought the Tars back to within two points at 14-12.
  • The Mocs maintained a multi-point lead throughout the rest of the frame, eventually winning it, 25-21, to complete the 3-0 sweep.

The Tars will return to the court tomorrow as they host No. 8 Tampa at 4 p.m.
