WINTER PARK, Fla. (Oct. 29, 2024) – The Rollins volleyball team lost a tough five-setter on Tuesday night, falling to visiting Florida Tech, 25-17, 22-25, 19-25, 25-14, 15-12. The Tars now sit at 12-10 on the year, 3-8 in SSC play, while the Panthers go to 15-5 overall, 9-2 in conference matches.
Jadyn Troutman led all players with 20 kills and hit .361 with six blocks (two solo), while
Lana Gerard tallied a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs.
Makayla Moran added 10 kills and five blocks (one solo) and
Emma Gongora chipped in with eight kills.
Adriana Lopez collected a team-high 26 digs and
Natalie Horsley posted a match-leading 46 assists to go along with eight digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
- Florida Tech took an early 8-2 lead, but the Tars battled back to get within a pair at 16-14.
- The Panthers ran away with it from there, winning eight of the final 10 points to win the set, 25-17.
Set Two
- Set two was nearly a mirror image of the first set, with Rollins jumping out to an early 7-2 edge only to see the Panthers cut the lead to a single point on numerous occasions, including as late as 23-22.
- Gongora and Troutman put down back-to-back kills to close out the set at 25-22, knotting the match at one set apiece.
Set Three
- In the third frame, Florida Tech scored six of the first seven points, but Rollins stormed back with eight straight points to go up 9-6.
- The lead continued to grow, getting as big as nine points (21-12) as the Blue and Gold cruised to a 25-19 win to go up 2-1 in the match.
Set Four
- The Tars held an early 5-2 lead in the fourth set, but FT turned it around quickly, going on a massive 19-4 burst to take control of the set, 21-9.
- Florida Tech held on for the 25-14 win to send the match to a fifth set.
Set Five
- The visitors took a quick 3-1 lead, but a 3-0 spurt for the Tars gave them a 5-4 edge.
- The Panthers responded with four straight points to go up 8-5, but Rollins was equal to the task, winning the next four rallies to regain the lead, 9-8.
- Florida Tech bounced back with a 3-0 run to go up 11-9, with the Tars scoring the next two points to tie the set at 11.
- After a pair of sideouts left the score tied at 12, the Panthers rallied to win three straight points, clinching the set, 15-12, to take the match three sets to two.

The Tars will be back at home on Friday, November 1, as they welcome Florida Southern to Warden Arena for a 7 p.m. match.
