DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 20, 2024) – The Rollins men's basketball team fell on the road at Embry-Riddle on Saturday, 91-74. The Tars are now 5-11 on the season, 2-7 in conference, while the Eagles improve to 11-6 overall, 5-4 in SSC play.
Matheus Silveira led all scorers with 26 points and added four rebounds, while
Braxton Barnhizer pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with seven points and a team-leading four assists.
Sergey Grishaev chipped in with 16 points and five boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half
- Silveira opened the scoring with back-to-back layups to put Rollins in front, 4-0.
- Embry-Riddle quickly countered with a 14-6 run to go up 14-10 at the first media timeout.
- The Eagles built their lead to double-digits at 28-17 with 8:35 to go in the first half, and just over four minutes later the advantage grew to 20 at 44-24.
- A quick 5-0 burst consisting of a three-pointer and a jumper from Grishaev made it 44-29, but ERAU regained a 20-point cushion just before halftime, holding a 51-31 lead at the break.
Second Half
- The Tars scored the first five points of the second half to trim the deficit to 51-36, but five minutes later the Eagles had increased their lead to 69-45.
- Rollins kept things from getting any further out of hand, but couldn't cut into the lead as Embry-Riddle held on for a 91-74 win.
