WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (September 23, 2023) - A second half burst from the Rollins offense helped the Tars to a 3-2 win over Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday evening. With the win, Rollins improves to 3-0-3 on the year.
The only damage in the first half came in the 19th minute when Yannick Toth converted on a penalty kick for PBA, putting them up 1-0.Â
Both sides had additional chances to score in the first half, but solid play from
Maximillian Obermeier in goal kept the score tight at 1-0.
Just eight minutes into the second half, Rollins was able to knot things up when
Jari Polm found the net, blasting one past Salvador Plaza on a free kick from more than 30 yards out.
Unfortunately for the Tars, Niklaus Clausen got the goal back for the Sailfish only four minutes later on a beautiful pass from Marcis Bou Dalmal to make it 2-1.
From there, Rollins turned up the pressure on the Sailfish defense. It would pay off late as a foul in the box awarded Rollins a penalty kick in the 84th minute.
Jorge Lameiras, who drew the foul, was chosen by head coach
Keith Buckley for the PK, and was successful with a rocket to the corner of the net to tie things up.
The Tars were not done. Only three minutes later, a nice defensive play from
Elvar Kristjansson put Rollins on the offensive. His pass to a streaking
Nazar Tsaruk, followed by a beautiful cross across the box, set
Patrick Horan up for a header that beat the keeper. His fifth goal of the year to put the Tars on top for good as they escaped with a 3-2 win.
The Tars converted on 3-8 shots on goal, while Obermeier stopped five shots to earn the win between the pipes.
Next up for Rollins is a home match against Embry-Riddle at 6pm on Wednesday, September 28.
