ASHLAND, Ohio (September 2, 2023) - Rollins ran into a tough defense on Saturday in the form of the Ashland Eagles, falling to their host by a score of 2-0. The Tars now stand at 1-1-0 on the young season.
The first ten minutes saw a shot on target from each team, followed by a slew of foul calls on both sides. In the 23rd minute, Ashland broke through when Merrik Mihalek worked herself around the defense and snuck a shot past freshman
Lauren Mehos.
Rollins stayed aggressive on offense, with
Peyton Massie getting a pair of good looks at the Eagles' goal, but she was turned away both times by keeper Mackenzie Simon. The game would go into halftime with Ashland hanging on to their 1-0 lead.
The Tars mixed up their lineup entering the second half, with head coach
Alicia Schuck swapping four different players into the lineup. Unfortunately, Ashland found the net once more just seven minutes in to the second half when Dani Hicks scored off a pass from Ella Schneider.
The Tars were giving everything they had on offense, sending shot after shot towards the Eagles' goal. by the end of the match, Rollins had taken eleven shots (with six on target), but each one came up empty as the Ashland defense stood strong. Unable to get over the deficit, Rollins fell to Ashland by a score fo 2-0.
Peyton Massie took five shots with four on goal to lead the offensive attack. Mehos, making her collegiate debut, stopped four of six shots sent her way.
The Tars will be back in action on Friday morning when they host Clayton State in Winter Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:00 am on September 8.
