Tars Take Down Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. (Sept. 16, 2023) – The Rollins volleyball team picked up a road win on Saturday, downing Florida Tech 3-1 (25-23, 25-17, 21-25, 25-16). The Tars improved to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in SSC matches, while the Panthers dropped to 4-6, 0-2 in conference play.
 
Emma Begley and Lana Gerard each led the way with 15 kills, with Gerard adding nine digs and Begley hitting a team-high .565. Jadyn Troutman contributed 13 kills and four blocks (two solo), while Adriana Lopez picked up a match-best 27 digs and Natalie Horsley dished out a match-leading 53 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
  • Rollins used a 5-0 run to turn a 7-5 deficit into a 10-7 lead early in the first set.
  • Florida Tech fought back, eventually regaining the lead at 17-16.
  • A kill from Abbie Tutor swung the advantage back to the Tars, 20-19.
  • Troutman put down a kill to make it 24-22, and two points later she scored the set-winning point for the Tars with another kill, sealing the 25-23 win.
Set Two
  • Set two saw Rollins go on an 11-2 spurt to pull out to a 12-5 lead.
  • Three straight kills from Troutman stretched the lead to 22-11, and the Tars would go on to claim a 25-17 win to go up 2-0 in the match.
Set Three
  • The Panthers jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the third, but an 11-3 burst pushed the Blue and Gold to an 18-15 advantage.
  • Florida Tech bounced back, finishing the set on a 10-3 run to win it, 25-21.
Set Four
  • The fourth set began with three straight points for the Panthers, followed by four consecutive points for the Tars, including back-to-back service aces from Emily Diaz.
  • A kill by Tess Margio increased the Rollins lead to 9-5, but Florida Tech answered back with four straight points to tie it at 9-9.
  • Rollins won five of the next seven points to grab a 14-11 lead, and the Tars would end up closing out the match on a 9-2 run to win it going away, 25-16, clinching the 3-1 match victory.
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will return to the court on Friday, Sept. 22 when they travel to Saint Leo for a 7 p.m. contest.
