WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 22, 2023) – The Rollins women's lacrosse team wrapped up the 2023 regular season on Saturday with a 16-6 victory over visiting Florida Tech. With the win, the Tars are now 15-2 and finish the year 5-2 in SSC games, as well as improving to 10-0 at home this season. The Panthers end the year at 9-8, 1-6 in conference play.
Abigail Cawley led all players with five points on two goals and three assists as well as a game-high three ground balls, while
Charlotte Gastonguay tallied two goals and an assist.
Jorie Alf,
Lily Thornewill, and
Lauren Noonan all chipped in with two goals apiece, while
Holyn Trautwein registered a game-high six draw controls.
Claire Barber (7-2) got the win in goal, making six saves on 11 shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
- Courtney Martin got the opening goal of the game and Abigail Cawley followed that up 43 seconds later, making it 2-0 Tars.
- Thornewill found the net twice in a span of 3:55 to double the lead to 4-0 before Delanie Aberie scored to push the margin to 5-0.
- After Florida Tech got on the board, Alf closed the scoring in the first to give Rollins a 6-1 advantage.
Second Quarter
- Alf was first to score in the second, with Charlotte Gastonguay adding her name to the ledger next, putting Rollins ahead by a score of 8-1.
- The Panthers got the next two goals before Claire Reist and Noonan answered back, helping the Tars regain a seven-goal cushion with a 10-3 halftime lead.
Third Quarter
- Caroline Gastonguay scored 1:44 into the third, which kicked off a string of four straight Rollins goals, including markers from Abigail Cawley, Caroline Bailey, and Molly Mendes, as the Tars extended their lead to 14-3.
- Florida Tech got one back late in the quarter, but Rollins maintained a comfortable 14-4 advantage going to the final period.
Fourth Quarter
- Both teams found the net twice in the fourth, including goals from Charlotte Gastonguay and Noonan, as the Tars cruised to a 16-6 win.

The Tars will be the No. 3 seed in the 2023 SSC Women's Lacrosse Championship and will travel to Lakeland to take on second-seeded Florida Southern on Thursday, April 27 at 7 p.m.
