Tars Win Streak Goes to Six with Sweep of Sailfish

Rollins defeated Palm Beach Atlantic twice on Saturday

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (April 22, 2023) - Rollins stayed in the playoff hunt with a road doubleheader sweep of the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Saturday afternoon. The pair of victories moves the Tars to 29-14 on the year and 13-11 in SSC play.

Game One
Rollins 2
Palm Beach Atlantic 1

The low-scoring affair saw the Sailfish jump out to an early lead. In the third inning, a pair of two-out singles put the Tars in trouble. It looked like they may escape the jam, but an error at third base allowed a run to come across.

Rollins answered back in the fourth, putting runners on the corners with one out. Pinch-runner Tori Pagan stole second, and an error on the play allowed Ashley Troutman to trot home and knot the score at one each.

The score would remain that way until the final frame. Ashley Worrell led off with a single and moved to second when Brie Michelli walked. Taylor Waters was up next and popped out to first base. The ball was hit deep enough to allow Worrell to move to third. Claire Long then followed with a clutch single up the middle to score Worrell and give Rollins a 2-1 lead.

Worrell then retired the Sailfish in order in the seventh to earn the save.

Game Two
Rollins 5
Palm Beach Atlantic 2

Rollins came out strong in the first, scoring twice. Ashley Troutman walked, and moved to third on a sac bunt and a groundout. Brice Michelli then followed with an RBI double, and was promptly brought in on a Taylor Waters base hit.

The Tars added to the lead in the fourth when Keli Zahradnik drove in Jaden Walker with a base hit down the left field line to make it 3-0. Palm Beach Atlantic got one back in the inning on an RBI groundout, cutting the lead to 3-1.

Rollins put an exclamation point on the game with a two-run blast off the bat of Worrell that scored herself and Grace Germer. The Sailfish added one run in the bottom half on a base hit, but that would be the last of their offense for the day.

Next up for the Tars is a home series against Florida Southern next weekend. They will play once on Friday April 28, and a doubleheader on Saturday April 29. The team will honor their senior class on Saturday between games.
