Tars Open Sailfish Series with Win

Rollins defeated Palm Beach Atlantic 3-1 on Friday evening

WEST PALM BEACH Fla. (April 21, 2023) - The Rollins Tars won their fourth consecutive SSC game on Friday, picking up a road win at Palm Beach Atlantic, 3-1. The Tars now stand at 27-14 on the year with an even 11-11 record in SSC play.

Rollins, playing for the first time since April 7, started off with a bang. Ashley Troutman led off the game with a double, and was promptly brought in on a single from Grace Germer. Germer would steal second to put herself in scoring position, but was left stranded.

The Sailfish tied things up in the second on a bases loaded hit by pitch, but starter Emily MacMullen was able to escape further damage when the next batter lined out to third, keeping it 1-1.

Only two more runs would be scored in the game. In the top of the third, Brie Michelli singled to left to bring in Germer and give the Tars the lead. They then added an insurance run in the fourth when Jaden Walked blasted a solo home run over the center field fence to make the final of 3-1. Her nine dingers this season are good for second-most in the SSC.

The Rollins pitching was locked in between MacMullen and Ashley Worrell. MacMullen tossed the first four innings, followed by three perfect frames from Worrell, who picked up the save. In fact, the last fifteen Sailfish hitters were set down in order.

Troutman was 4-4 on the day, bumping her season average to .532. She also added a steal, inching her closer to the all-time Tars record for a career. She is currently at 95, trailing Jody Horton, who swiped 99 bags between 1996-99.

MacMullen's win moves her to 15-9 on the year. Worrell struck out five of the nine batters she faced.

These two teams will wrap up their series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon.
