Army Too Much for Tars

Georgina Groth earned a win in singles on Thursday

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 9, 2023) – The Rollins women's tennis team saw its three-match winning streak snapped on Thursday by visiting Army, 6-1. The Tars are now 4-4 on the year, while the Black Knights go to 13-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Doubles
  • Army grabbed wins on courts two and three to take the doubles point.
  • Georgina Groth and Katie Groves pushed Paige Herremans and Cooper Jackson on court one, but ultimately came up short as the Black Knights swept the doubles matches with a 7-5 win.
Singles
  • Army picked up victories on the back three courts to clinch the overall match with a 4-0 lead.
  • After the Black Knights made it 5-0 with a win on court two, the final two matches went to 10-point tiebreaks.
  • Groth was able to bounce back after dropping the first set to earn a 6-7 (5), 6-3, 10-6 win over Jackson on court one to give the Tars their lone point of the match.
  • Polina Vlasova battled hard on court three, but Army's Julia Kelly prevailed with a 5-7, 6-3, 10-3 win to close out the Black Knights' 6-1 win.
