Tars Toss a Pair of Shutouts

Rollins defeated Chestnut Hill twice on Monday

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 6, 2023) - The Rollins Tars extended their winning streak to three games with a pair of shut out victories on Monday afternoon against Chestnut Hill. Rollins now stands at 9-9 on the season.

Game One
Rollins 8
Chestnut Hill 0

Rollins jumped on the board early with four runs in the first, highlighted by a two-run triple off the bat of Taylor Waters. Jaden Walkers added a groundout RBI, and Ashley Troutman scored as well in the first.

A Claire Long groundout brought in Troutman in the fourth, making it 5-0. Rollins would add a sixth run in the fifth on yet another RBI groundout, this time from Kaeli Zahradnik

The game would wrap up early in the sixth inning when Waters smashed a double to left center, scoring Claire Long and Grace Germer to run rule the Cardinals.

Emily MacMullen was terrific in the circle, going the distance in game one. She allowed just one hit, one walk, and struck out six. Waters went 3-4 with four RBI to lead the offense.

Game Two
Rollins 3
Chestnut Hill 0

The story of game two was starting pitcher Taylor Hartman. She started her outing with a rarity; she threw nine straight strikes, collecting three strikeouts otherwise known as an immaculate inning.

She received some offensive support in the second when Jaden Walker obliterated a ball to left field to plate herself and Brie Michelli

Meanwhile, Hartman was cruising. She gave up an infield single in the third, but then retired the next nine in a row. Forty-three of her first fifty pitches were strikes as the Griffins failed to make any sort of hard contact.

Rollins added their third and final run in the fifth with Waters' third RBI of the game n a groundout that brought in Troutman.

Hartman ended the game with seven shutout innings, allowing only two singles, walking none, and striking out a career-high ten.

Rollins will be back in action on Wednesday, March 8 when they host Queens College for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
