WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 4, 2023) - Rollins snapped their five-game losing streak on Saturday by splitting a SSC doubleheader with the Lynn Fighting Knights. Rollins now stands at 7-9 on the year with a 3-6 record in the conference.
Game One
Lynn 8
Rollins 5
Rollins could not have asked for a better start in the first game of the day. With one out in the bottom of the first,
Grace Germer launched a no-doubter over the left field fence to put the Tars up 1-0. The Tars were not done. With two outs,
Taylor Waters walked, followed by a
Brie Michelli single.
Kaeli Zahradnik was then hit by a pitch to load the bases for
Jaden Walker. The senior came through, blasting a grand slam over the center field wall to put Rollins up 5-0.
In the top of the second, Lynn go on the board with an RBI double. Moments later, with two on, a ball was hit back to pitcher
Emily MacMullen, who tried to make a tough play after corralling the ball. Her throw was errant, however, and it allowed two unearned runs to come across, making it 5-3.
The third and fourth innings were quiet before Lynn scored one more in the fifth on a wild pitch that brought in yet another unearned run. A sac fly in the sixth would then tie things up at five.
Lynn pulled away with three runs in the seventh inning powered by a pair of sac bunts, another Rollins error, and an RBI single.
Germer had two hits for the Tars, while Walker had four RBI.
Game Two
Rollins 5
Lynn 1
After leaving runners stranded in scoring position in both the first and second innings, Rollins finally got on the board in the third when
Ashley Troutman smacked a home run to center field. They would then pad their lead in the fourth. Waters led off with a single and steal of second. Four batters later,
Emma Gipple smoked a single into right, scoring both Waters and Zahradnik. A pitching change didn't help the Knights as the next hitter,
Sarah Young, lined a shot up the middle to score Gipple and make it 4-0.
Rollins added their fifth run in the fifth when Michelli brought home Waters with a base hit.
All of this offense was more than enough for starter
Emily MacMullen. She no-hit the Knights through five inning before allowing a double in the top of the sixth. The run was brought in on a groundout, but the southpaw was able to escape the inning without any further damage.
The Tars were able to turn a sharp double play in the seventh, followed by a swinging strikeout to end it, giving MacMullen the complete game victory.
Her final line read seven innings, two hits, one run, and five strikeouts. Troutman went 4-4 in game two with a run and an RBI.
Rollins will be back in action on Monday, March 6th with a home doubleheader against Chestnut Hill. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
