TAMPA, Fla. (March 29, 2023) – The Rollins women's tennis team gave the ninth-ranked Tampa Spartans a good battle on Wednesday afternoon, with Tampa narrowly escaping with a 4-3 win. With the loss, the Tars are now 6-7 on the year and 2-4 in conference play, while the Spartans go to 10-3 overall, 4-2 in SSC matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Doubles
- Tampa secured the doubles point by sweeping all three doubles matches by identical 6-4 scores.
Singles
- The Spartans took a 2-0 lead with a win on court six, but Katie Groves got the Tars on the board with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Victoria Sanchez on court two.
- Tampa went up 3-1 with a win on court three, and the Spartans secured the match when No. 23 Raquel Amaro held on for a 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 win over No. 45 Georgina Groth at number one singles.
- The Tars continued to battle, with Polina Ligay fighting back from a 6-1 loss in the first set to defeat Aleks Topalovic, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 on court four.
- Milla Falster also showed her resilience on court five, bouncing back for a 2-6, 7-6 (0), 10-8 win over Anine Wilberg, making it a 4-3 final score.
UP NEXT:
The Tars will have a couple weeks off before returning to the court to host No. 2 Saint Leo on Thursday, April 13, which will also be Senior Day.
