Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

No. 18 Tars Soar Past Eagles

Rollins defeated Embry-Riddle 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon

WINTER PARK, Fla. (Mach 29, 2023) - Playing their first match in nearly two weeks, men's tennis battled through a tough match with the Embry-Riddle on Wednesday, eventually claiming the win, 4-3. The Tars now stand at 13-2 on the year with a perfect 4-0 record in SSC play.

Rollins was able to sweep the three doubles matches to earn the first point of the day. Charlie Putrino/Richard Stoiberer finished first with a 6-4 win on court three. Next up was the duo of Mikkel Baumann/Guillermo Castaneda who captured court two with a 6-3 score. Court one needed extra time to finish, but eventually Efe Comu/Luke Quaynor outlasted the Eagles with a 7-6 (0) win.

After Embry-Riddle tied the score with a win on court two, Moritz Stenzer put the Tars back on top with a gritty 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win on singles six. The Eagles responded with another win, tis time claiming victory on court three to knot the score at two each. They took it a step further with a third victory, this time taking court five to go ahead 3-2.

Freshman Richard Stoiberer gutted out a tough win on singles four, defeating Alvaro Diaz with a final line of 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.

With the score tied at 3-3, all eyes went to the feature court where Efe Comu and Alex Guedy were locked in a back-and-forth affair. Guedy struck first with a 6-4 win in set one, but Comu answered with a 6-3 effort in set two. The Turkish native then solidified the Tars win with a 6-1 victory in set three.

From head coach Jay Friedman:
Just an absolute wonderful effort today from the whole team. We did a really good job of setting the tone in the doubles with Baumann and Castañeda jumping out to a lead quickly, which allowed everyone to play bigger on courts one and three. The thing about ERAU is they are so well coached - they adjust and fight and adjust some more.I am super proud of our guys for sticking it through to the end on each court. Efe, wow, he really stepped through and beat a nemesis, when all the chips were down and everyone was counting on him, he earned it today!

Rollins will be put through another tough test at #4 Barry this Saturday, April 1st. First serve is scheduled for 1:30 PM.
