13th-ranked Tars Handle Embry-Riddle in SSC Opener

Shahé Katchadurian made 16 saves in the win

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 25, 2023) – The Rollins men's lacrosse team took an early lead and pulled away late to run away with a 15-5 win at Embry-Riddle on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Tars go to 7-1 on the year and 1-0 in conference play, while the Eagles drop to 4-5 overall, 0-2 in SSC action.
 
Mikey Berkman racked up seven points on two goals and five assists to lead the Tars, while Logan Myers totaled four goals and an assist. Jack Johnstone added three goals and a ground ball, while Justin White chipped in with two goals and an assist. Thomas Garvin was 9-for-15 in faceoffs with a game-high five ground balls, and Shahé Katchadurian (6-1) made 16 saves to get the win in goal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter
  • Johnstone opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game, and Ian Dean made it 2-0 with a goal just over a minute later.
  • Berkman scored at the 6:31 mark to make it 3-0, and Myers' first goal of the contest pushed the lead to 4-0 just over 10 minutes into the game.
  • The Eagles got one back a minute later, but Rollins would hold a comfortable 4-1 lead after the first quarter.
Second Quarter
  • Myers put home two more goals in the second to match ERAU's two goals, giving the Tars a 6-3 lead at the break.
Third Quarter
  • White scored his first goal of the game for the first marker of the second half, increasing the lead to 7-3.
  • After an Eagle goal, Johnstone and Berkman each netted goals to make it 9-4.
  • A late Embry-Riddle goal put the score at 9-5 after three quarters of play.
Fourth Quarter
  • The Tars were relentless in the final 15 minutes, outshooting the Eagles 16-7 overall and 8-1 in shots on goal.
  • Myers scored less than a minute into the period with Grant Hansen putting one home 50 seconds later.
  • Johnstone scored 41 seconds after that, and Harrison Key found the net just over a minute after Johnstone's goal, putting the Tars up 13-5.
  • White scored at the 6:55 mark and Dean added the final goal two minutes later, while Katchadurian and the Rollins defense pitched a shutout in the fourth, accounting for the 15-5 final score.
 
UP NEXT:
The Tars will be back at home on Saturday, April 1, when they host No. 3 Tampa. That game is scheduled for an 8 p.m. start at Barker Family Stadium.
