WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 25, 2023) – The 21st-ranked Rollins baseball team swept a doubleheader to take all three games of the series against visiting Barry on Saturday, taking the first game, 5-4, before dominating the final contest, 12-4. With the victories, the Tars go to 20-7 overall and 10-2 in conference, while the Bucs drop to 20-9, 7-8 in SSC play.
Game 1 – No. 21 Rollins 5, Barry 4
Jack Herring went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs while
Cameron Meehan was 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs.
Joey Rubin and
Adams Torres each went 2-for-5 with a run scored, with Rubin adding a double as well.
Nick Berger got a no decision despite another quality start, allowing just one run on seven hits in six solid innings, walking one and striking out four.
Spencer Mangum (3-0) earned the win, tossing 0.2 innings without allowing a baserunner.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Second Inning
- Barry made a leadoff walk hurt in the second inning as that runner came around to score the first run of the game.
Fifth Inning
- Spencer Sarringar opened the fifth with a base hit to right-center and took second base when the right fielder bobbled the ball.
- After a flyout moved him to third, Sarringar came home with Rollins' first run on a sacrifice fly from Drew Howard.
Sixth Inning
- Torres got the sixth inning started with a two-strike single up the middle.
- Jeslyn Whitehead then singled to push Torres to second with nobody out.
- After a fielder's choice erased Whitehead and moved Torres to third, Meehan singled home Torres to give Rollins a 2-1 lead.
- Herring then laced a double to deep left, scoring Coleman and Meehan to make it a 4-1 game.
Eighth Inning
- Barry got a run back in the eighth to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Ninth Inning
- The Bucs took advantage of two walks and an error, combined with two hits and a sacrifice fly to push across two runs in the ninth, tying the game at four.
- Howard drew a leadoff walk in the Tars' half of the ninth and Rubin followed with an infield single to put two on with nobody out.
- After a double play looked to give Barry a good chance to escape the threat, Whitehead and Coleman worked back-to-back walks to load the bases.
- Meehan then fell behind 1-2 but was hit by a pitch to force home the game-winning run in walk-off fashion for the second straight game.
Game 2 – No. 21 Rollins 12, Barry 4
Parker Smith went 2-for-3 with a walk, two home runs, three runs scored, and three RBIs in game two, while Herring was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Coleman finished 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Rubin was 1-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored, and a stolen base.
Kieran Casey (2-1) earned the win, allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits in five innings, walking two and striking out four.
Jaxon Mills recorded his second save, tossing four scoreless innings while scattering three hits and picking up a strikeout.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- Barry manufactured a run in the top of the first with a walk, stolen base, wild pitch, and error.
Second Inning
- The Bucs built on their early lead with two more runs in the second to go up 3-0.
- Rollins got those two runs back in the bottom half as Herring and Smith each connected for solo home runs, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
Third Inning
- Rubin led off the third with an infield single, and two batters later he advanced to third on a double off the bat of Whitehead.
- Coleman then knocked both of them in with a double to left-center, putting Rollins ahead, 4-3.
- Kyle Bullock followed up with a double of his own to score Coleman, making it a 5-3 game.
Fifth Inning
- Barry got a run back in the fifth on a solo home run, trimming the lead to 5-4.
Sixth Inning
- Smith, Axel Post, and Rubin were all walked to open the sixth, loading the bases with nobody out.
- A passed ball brough home Smith, and Torres then ripped a single through the drawn-in infield to score Rubin and pinch-runner Kency McCombe, increasing the lead to 8-4.
Seventh Inning
- Smith connected for a two-run homer after Jimmy Theis drew a one-out walk, pushing the lead to 10-4.
Eighth Inning
- A two-run single from Herring added a pair of insurance runs for the Tars in the eighth, building the margin to 12-4.
Ninth Inning
- Mills pitched around a single and a hit batter in the ninth to secure the 12-4 victory and earn the save.

The Tars will be back in action at home on Tuesday, March 28 when they host Florida Southern in a non-conference game beginning at 5 p.m.
