WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 24, 2023) - Women's tennis dropped a tough conference matchup with the #31 Embry-Riddle Eagles at home on Friday, losing 4-3. The Tars now stand at 6-6 on the year, with a 2-3 record against SSC opponents.
Embry-Riddle jumped out to an early lead with a pair of doubles wins. The third doubles match went the way of the Tars on court one as
Georgina Groth/
Katie Groves forged past Itxaso Blanco/Maja Issler by a score of 7-6 (5).
The Tars were quick to tie things up at one when Issler had to retire from her match on singles two against Groves. Unfortunately, the Eagles would clean up on the bottom half of the board, taking wins on courts four, five and six to secure the match.Â
Rollins was playing for pride at this point, but went down swinging. On court three,
Polina Vlasova won her match by a score of 7-5, 6-3. Then, on court one, it was an epic battle between Groth and Blanco. Blanco took the first set 6-0 but Groth responded with an impressive 6-1. That led to a winner-take-all set three that saw the two ladies battle to the very end. Eventually, it was Groth taking home the win with a 7-6 (3) performance in the final frame.Â
Another conference matchup with a ranked opponent looms in the near future for Rollins. They will travel to Tampa on Wednesday, March 29 to tangle with the Spartans. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
