WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 24, 2023) – The 21st-ranked Rollins baseball team overcame an early 3-1 deficit to walk off with a 5-3 win over Barry on Friday evening in the series opener between the two squads. The Tars improve to 18-7 overall and 8-2 in conference play, while the Bucs fall to 20-7, 7-6 in SSC games.
Joey Rubin and
Jeslyn Whitehead were each 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored, and an RBI, while
Drew Howard was 2-for-3 with a run scored and
Parker Smith finished 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run.
Edward Berry got the start, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks in 5.1 innings, striking out four.
Tate Stone-Frisina (5-0) tossed the final 3.2 innings, scattering three hits while allowing no runs and striking out a pair.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- Barry used two hits and a walk in the top of the first to open the scoring with one run.
Second Inning
- The Bucs got a solo home run in the second to double their lead to 2-0.
Third Inning
- Howard singled up the middle with one out in the second, and Rubin followed that with a long double to right-center that allowed Howard to score the first run of the night for the Tars.
Fourth Inning
- Barry tacked on a run on another solo home run in the fourth to go up 3-1.
- The Tars loaded the bases in the bottom half of the inning, but couldn't push across any runs.
Fifth Inning
- Rubin opened the fifth with another double, and he was able to score on a one-out Whitehead double to cut the deficit to 3-2.
- Whitehead then stole third, and two batters later he came home to score on a sacrifice fly from Cameron Meehan, tying the game at three.
Ninth Inning
- The game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth, which started with a Spencer Sarringar line-drive single to center field.
- Three pitches later, Smith launched a two-run home run over the right-center field fence to give Rollins a 5-3 walk-off win.

The Tars and Bucs will be back at it tomorrow for a doubleheader at Alfond Stadium beginning at 1 p.m.
