WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 15, 2023) – The 48th-ranked Rollins women's tennis team gave No. 19 Washburn a good fight on Wednesday, but the visitors escaped with a 4-3 win. The loss puts the Tars at 5-5 on the year, while the Ichabods go to 8-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Doubles
- Washburn got 6-2 wins on courts two and three to clinch the doubles point.
- Georgina Groth and Katie Groves battled 17th-ranked Maja Jung and Sonia Smagina on court one, but the Ichabod tandem finished off the doubles sweep with a 6-4 win.
Singles
- Washburn went up 2-0 with a win on court two before Polina Vlasova got the Tars on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Marta Torres on court three.
- After the Ichabods took a 3-1 lead with a victory on court five, Polina Ligay kept Rollins alive with a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 defeat of Casie Curry on court four, cutting the Washburn lead to 3-2.
- Smagina, the second-ranked singles player in the country, clinched the match for Washburn with a hard-fought 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 win over Groth on court one.
- Erin Yaroshuk earned Rollins' third point of the day with a bounce-back 5-7, 6-1, 6-0 win at number six singles.

The Tars will return to the court next Tuesday, March 21, to host Tufts, the eighth-ranked team in NCAA Division III, at 3:30 p.m.
