JACKSONVILLE, Fla./CHARLESTON, S.C. (March 11, 2023) – The Rollins sailing team competed in two regattas on Saturday, putting together a fourth-place finish at the Jacksonville Trophy and sitting in fifth place at the Turner Cup Team Race.
In Jacksonville, the Tars placed fourth in the lone race contested on the day, giving them four points and a fourth-place overall result. Jacksonville's "Fins 1" and "Dolphins 2" teams took first and second, respectively, with South Florida placing third.
At the Turner Cup Team Race, Rollins competed in 12 head-to-head races with the six other schools competing, going 3-9 in those races. The Tars picked up a win over Embry-Riddle in round one, with Rollins' three boats finishing first, second, and fourth to score seven points to win the match-up. In round two, Rollins again bested ERAU, going 1-3-6 in the finishing order to beat the Eagles by one point (11-10), and got a win over Florida Tech by two points, placing first, third, and fifth in that match-up. The Tars are actually tied with Florida Tech at 3-9 overall, but thanks to a better total score in the two head-to-head match-ups between the Tars and the Panthers (20-22), Rollins holds the tiebreaker advantage.
