WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 10, 2023) – The Rollins softball team pounded out 24 hits and scored 22 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Post University on Friday evening, winning the opener, 15-6 in five innings, before taking the nightcap, 7-2. With the wins, the Tars are now 13-9 on the year, while the Eagles drop to 0-4.
Game 1 – Rollins 15, Post 6 (5 inn.)
Nine different Tars recorded hits, eight players scored, and six drove in runs in the game one win.
Grace Germer was 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three stolen bases,
Ashley Troutman was 3-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, and three runs scored, and
Jaden Walker was 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs scored, and five RBIs.
Taylor Waters finished 2-for-3 with a stolen base, two runs scored, and two RBIs, and
Sarah Young was 2-for-3 two RBIs.
Emily MacMullen (6-6) got the win, allowing four runs on five hits in three innings, picking up four strikeouts.
Taylor Hartman and
Morgan Lebeda combined to allow only two runs over the final two innings to close out the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Second Inning
- The Eagles got on the board first on a two-out, three-run home run in the top of the second.
- Rollins bounced back, cutting the deficit to 3-2 on a two-run single from Young.
Third Inning
- The Tars sent nine batters to the plate in the third, scoring five runs on six hits.
- Troutman and Germer started the inning with back-to-back bunt singles.
- After both runners had moved up, Claire Long continued the trend, bunting for a base hit, and taking second base as the Eagle defense was fixated on Troutman scoring.
- Waters then ripped a single to center to score Germer, giving the Tars a 4-3 lead.
- Walker followed that by launching a three-run home run to left, building the lead to 7-3.
Fourth Inning
- After Post got a run back in the top of the fourth, Rollins responded in a big way, plating eight runs on nine hits and two errors, batting around with 12 at-bats in the inning.
- Troutman got it started once again, this time with a double to left-center.
- Germer reached on an infield single that pushed Troutman to third.
- Two batters later, Waters drove in Troutman with an RBI bunt single that also moved Germer to third; Waters advanced to second with the defense not covering the base.
- Walker earned two more RBIs with a base hit through the left side, scoring both Germer and Waters; she herself came all the way around to score when Post made an errant throw trying to cut her down taking second base on the throw home.
- Brie Michelli got a new rally started with a base hit and took second on a wild pitch.
- Two batters later, Emma Gipple singled to left to score Michelli, making it a 12-4 game.
- Morgan Lebeda then delivered a pinch-hit two-run homer to make it 14-4.
- After Troutman got aboard with another bunt single, Germer reach on a bunt single and both runners advanced two additional bases on another errant throw, which plated Troutman to push the lead to 15-4.
Fifth Inning
- The Eagles took advantage of a pair of walks and a timely base hit to score twice in the fifth, but it wasn't enough to overcome the eight-run rule that ended the game early at 15-6.
Game 2 – Rollins 7, Post 2
In the nightcap, Troutman went 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored, and four stolen bases, while Germer was 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored, an RBI, and two steals. Walker was 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and Michelli finished 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored, and a stolen base.
Emily MacMullen (7-6) picked up her second win of the day, giving up two runs on four hits in 5.1 innings of work, striking out eight. Hartman and Lebeda again combined to close things out, tossing a scoreless 1.2 innings of relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- Troutman opened the bottom of the first with an infield single, promptly stole second and then stole third, scoring on a bad throw from the catcher on her steal of third.
- Germer followed suit by drawing a walk, then stealing second and third.
- Two batters later, Waters drove in Germer with a bunt single to make it 2-0.
Third Inning
- After Waters reached on an error with one out, Walker made the Eagles pay with a two-run homer down the left-field line to double the lead to 4-0.
- After Michelli singled with two outs, Gipple lifted a fly ball that was dropped by the right fielder, allowing Michelli to come around and score the Tars' fifth run.
Sixth Inning
- The Eagles got two runs back in their half of the sixth, cutting the lead to 5-2.
- Rollins wasted no time answering back, scoring twice in its half of the sixth.
- Gipple got one run back right away by blasting a home run to left to start the inning.
- Troutman drew a one-out walk, then stole second and took third on a wild pitch all on the same sequence.
- Germer then lifted a fly ball deep enough to left field to score Troutman, putting the Tars up 7-2.
Seventh Inning
- Rollins' relievers took care of things in the seventh, with Hartman getting the first two batters and Lebeda striking out the final one to close the door on the 7-2 win.

The Tars will be back in action at home on Sunday, March 12, when they host Mercy College in a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is set for 11 a.m.
