Eagles Snap Tars Win Streak

Minnesota Crookston defeated Rollins 5-2 on Friday afternoon

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 10, 2023) - Rollins saw their four-game win streak snapped on Friday with a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Minnesota Crookston Eagles. Rollins now sits at 14-5 on the season.

After Edward Berry set the Eagles down in order in the top of the first, Rollins was able to get on the board in the bottom haf. Joey Rubin led off with s single, moved to second on a wild pitch, third on a Ryan Coleman groundout, and scored when Jack Herring was hit by a pitch.

Unfortunately, The Tars offense would simply shut down from that point on as Crookston starter Jake Dykhoff locked in. He did not allow a Rollins hit after the Rubin single until Jimmy Thies was able to punch a single into left with one out in the seventh.

Meanwhile, the Eagles were able to score a run in the top of the second on a groundout. Berry left two runners stranded to keep the game tied. He would replicate that effort in the third, when two men got on, but failed to come around.

The game remained 1-1 until the top of the sixth when Crookston hit a triple and a double with two outs to go up 3-1.

Tate Stone-Frisina was able to leave the bases loaded in the seventh to keep the Tars in the game. Unfortunately, the Eagles woud break through for a run in both the eighth and ninth innings to extend their lead. Rollins got one back in the bottom of the ninth on a Herring solo home run to right to make the final of 5-2.

Herring had two RBI on a day in which the Tars offense only managed three hits and two runs. Coming into the game, Rollins was averaging 8.27 runs and 11.8 hits per game.

Berry gave a good effort in his loss, going for 5.2 innings, giving up five hits, three runs and striking out six.

They will look to bounce back on Saturday as they wrap up Baseball Week with a noon contest against Notre Dame (OH), who they defeated on Thursday, 12-0.
