FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (February 25, 2023) - The Rollins Tars bounced back after last week with a strong win over #24 Nova Southeastern on Friday night, winning 7-5. The Tars now stand at 6-5 overall, with a 2-2 record in SSC play.
Rollins started things off with a run in the top of the first thanks to
Grace Germer .She singled, stole second, stole third, and then scored on a sac fly from
Claire Long to make it 1-0.
Nova would tie things up in the bottom half, and then take the lead in the second, going up 3-1. The lead then extended to 4-1 in the fourth inning, prompting head coach Christine Roser-Lefevers to make a pitching change.
Taylor Hartman induced a double play to escape any further damage in the fourth.
The fifth inning was a momentum shifter for Rollins. With one out
Ashley Troutman singled, and moved to second on a grounder. She was then brought in by a Long single. Next up was
Morgan Lebeda who walked to put two on with two outs.
Jaden Walker did her job wth a double to left, bringing in Long and putting two more runners in scoring position. A walk would load the bases, followed by a two-run single to right from
Sarah Young. Finally,
Brie Michelli smoked a double to right, bringing in Young and Waters. When all was said and done, the Tars held a 7-4 lead.
The Sharks would get one run back in the sixth on a wild pitch, but other than that, they were completely shut down by Hartman in the circle. She struck out the last batter of the game for an emphatic 7-5 Tars win.
Hartman allowed just two hits in 3.1 innings of relief, striking out three. On offense, Troutman, Long, Waters, and Michelli each recorded two hits.
