LAKELAND, Fla. (February 22, 2023) – The 23rd-ranked Rollins women's tennis team came up just short in a trip to Lakeland to take on No. 24 Florida Southern, falling by a score of 4-3. The loss drops the Tars to 1-3 overall, 1-2 in conference play, while the Mocs improve to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in SSC matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Doubles
- Florida Southern started the day by sweeping all three doubles matches to grab the first point of the contest.
Singles
- Rollins tied things up when Natalie Collado Cordon knocked off Isabella Boliver in straight sets on court six, 6-2, 6-4, to even the match at a point apiece.
- After FSC retook the lead with a win on court four, Katie Groves finished off Maxima Ellenberg, 6-2, 6-2, on court two to tie the match at 2-2.
- Polina Vlasova then wrapped up an identical 6-2, 6-2 win over Laura Vetter on court three, putting the Tars on top, 3-2.
- The Mocs answered back, with Laia Pasini needing three sets to defeat Georgina Groth on court one, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, knotting things up at 3-3.
- It all came down to number five singles, where FSC's Vivien Charvatova was able to get past Maria McKay, 6-2, 6-4, securing the 4-3 win for the Mocs.
UP NEXT:
The Tars return home on Saturday, Feb. 25, to kick off a four-match homestand, beginning with an 11 a.m. matchup with Bates College.
