WINTER PARK, Fla. (Feb. 18, 2023) – The Rollins softball team came up short in both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday, falling to visiting Embry-Riddle 5-3 and 2-0. The losses drop the Tars to 5-5 overall, 1-2 in SSC play, while the Eagles go to 6-3, 2-1 in conference games.
Game 1 – ERAU 5, RC 3
Ashley Troutman went 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base, and a run scored, while
Kaeli Zahradnik was 2-for-3.
Emily MacMullen (1-3) took the loss, giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits in 5.1 innings, walking two and striking out three.
Lauren Latoria was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Eagles and Delaney Morgan finished 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored. Shelby Morse (1-3) got the complete game win, surrendering three runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out five.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- Troutman laced the third pitch from Morse to deep right field for a leadoff double.
- After Troutman stole third, Germer lifted a sacrifice fly to bring her home with the first run of the day.
Fourth Inning
- Embry-Riddle strung together three straight singles after a leadoff walk to plate two runs in the fourth, giving the visitors a 2-1 lead.
Fifth Inning
Sixth Inning
- The Eagles answered back, scoring three times in the sixth, two coming home on the same passed ball, to retake the lead, 5-2.
- Claire Long led off the bottom half with a double and Brie Michelli followed that with a double of her own to score Long, cutting the margin to 5-3.
Seventh Inning
- Zahradnik led off the seventh with a solid single, but Rollins couldn't push a runner past first base as ERAU held on for the 5-3 win.
Game 2 – ERAU 2, RC 0
Troutman was 2-for-3 with a stolen base while
Sarah Young went 1-for-2 in game two. Worrell (3-2) took the loss, giving up two unearned runs on two hits in six innings, walking three and striking out five.
Mahaliyah Sandridge finished 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in game two for the Eagles. Mallory Kinahan (3-0) got the complete game shutout win, giving up six hits and a walk while collecting three strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Inning
- The Tars looked poised to take another first-inning lead, but Troutman was cut down at the plate on a would-be sacrifice fly, keeping things scoreless.
Third Inning
- Embry-Riddle used a double-steal to set up two runners in scoring position with two outs.
- The Eagles cashed in on an error that allowed both runners to score, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Seventh Inning
- Rollins couldn't put together any offensive rallies against Kinahan as ERAU held on for a 2-0 win to sweep the doubleheader and win the series.
UP NEXT:
The Tars will travel to Fort Lauderdale on Friday, Feb. 24 to face Nova Southeastern in another SSC series. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
