WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 21, 2023) - Rollins looked to be in top form on Saturday, earning their first win over a Division-I opponent since 2019 with their 6-1 victory against Navy. The win moves Rollins to 2-1 on the young season.
Navy earned their first (and only) point of the day by taking two of three doubles matches.
Mikkel Baumann and
Guillermo Castaneda took home a win on court two, 6-3, but Navy was able to answer back on court three with a 6-3 win. All eyes then turned to court one where an epic match between
Efe Comu/
Luke Quaynor and Sasha Panyan/Luke Garner needed a tie-breaker to be settled. When the dust cleared, it was the Midshipmen coming out on top, 7-6 (4).
Singles play was dominated by the Tars, who managed to take the win on all six courts.
Moritz Stenzer finished first on court six with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Eric Liu. Next up was Comu, who swept his match in first position, 6-0, 6-0 versus Nicholas Nguyen. Freshman
Richard Stoiberer was up next with a 6-2, 6-2 effort on court five.
Luke Quaynor needed an extra game to secure his victory over Christian Pumpelly, 6-2, 7-5, from court two. It was a similar result for Baumann from position four, as he also won by a score of 6-2, 7-5 against Matthew McNair. To wrap up the day, Castaneda went 6-3, 6-3 opposite Nathan Nguyen on court three to complete the singles sweep.
This was the first D-1 win for the Tars since 2019 when they defeated both Army West Point and Mount St. Mary's.

The Tars will take on Florida Southern on Thursday, February 23 at 3:00 pm.
