Rollins Walks Off in Conference Opener

Grace Germer's one-out double in the bottom of the seventh gave the Tars a 2-1 win over Embry-Riddle

WINTER PARK, Fla. (Feb. 17, 2023) – The Rollins softball team surrendered a lead in the seventh inning only to come right back and earn a walk-off win a few minutes later Friday night against Embry-Riddle in the SSC opener for both squads. With the win, the Tars improve to 5-3, 1-0 in conference play, while the Eagles drop to 4-3, 0-1 in SSC games.

Ashley Troutman went 3-for-4 with a double and the game-winning run while Grace Germer was 2-for-4 with a double and the game-winning RBI. Ashley Worrell (3-1) got the win in the circle, tossing a complete game, allowing just one run on two hits and three walks while striking out seven; she also went 0-for-1 with two walks and an RBI at the plate.

Karina Ortiz-Munoz went 2-for-2 with the only two ERAU hits, including a solo home run, as well as a walk. Mallory Kinahan got a no-decision after surrendering a run on four hits in 6.1 innings, walking four and striking out a pair. Shelby Morse (0-3) took the loss after giving up a run on two hits without recording an out.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Fifth Inning
  • Neither team could string together a rally to put up much of an offensive threat until the fifth inning.
  • Sarah Young singled with one out and moved to second on Troutman's two-out base hit.
  • Germer then reached on an infield single that loaded the bases with two outs.
  • Worrell showed good plate discipline and drew a four-pitch walk to drive home Young with the first run of the game.
Seventh Inning
  • The Tars saw their one-run lead evaporate when Ortiz-Munoz led off the seventh with a solo home run.
  • Troutman delivered her third hit of the night with one out in the bottom of the inning, and Germer then crushed a 1-1 pitch to the right-center field gap that allowed Troutman to easily dash home with the winning run.
