BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 11, 2023) - The Rollins Tars found themselves back in the win column following a 78-73 win over the Lynn Fighting Knights on Saturday. The win moves Rollins to 12-12 (8-8 SSC) on the year.
The game was all Knights early on as the host school jumped out to a 11-2 lead as the Tars struggled from the floor. The lead grew as high as 20-7 right before the second media timeout. The next five points of the game belonged to
Cade Long, who knocked down a three and a layup to bring the Tars within eight.
Around the seven-minute mark, Lynn held a 27-18 lead. Rollins woke up and made a run with
Kyle Marion converting back-to-back layups,
Hutton Yenor scoring on a fast break, and Yenor adding a tough hanging jumper in the paint which brought the Tars within one. At the 2:44 mark, Marion nailed a triple to give Rollins a 31-30 lead, their first of the game. Marion would add a three-point play with under a minute to go, leading to a 34-34 tied score at half.
Lynn scored the first basket of the second half, but Rollins' defense took over and limited the Knights to zero made field goals for the next four minutes. The Tars would take advantage, ballooning a lead all the way to eleven on a Yenor free throw with 15 minutes to go. However, the two teams would trade roles as the Tars offense sputtered and the Knights were able to convert on their opportunity. A 10-0 run by Lynn gave them a three-point lead with eight minutes left.
Moments later, Yenor converted on two straight possessions before a
John Latimer III layup helped Rollins retake the lead, 62-61. The momentum quickly shifted to Lynn, and they would take a six-point lead on a Jalen Gilmore triple with less than three minutes to go.
Rollins' response was to go on an 8-0 run with layups from
Matheus Silveira and Marion, as well as a pair of free throws from Latimer. Lynn managed to pull within one with less than ten seconds to play, but Rollins hit four free throws to ice the game and take home a 78-73 conference road win.
Yenor led the team in scoring with 22 points, and also added nine rebounds. Marion ended the game with 20 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Silveira chipped in ten points, and also blocked three shots.
Next up for the Tars is a home match with the Saint Leo Lions on Wednesday, February 15 at warden Arena.
