WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 1, 2023) - The Rollins Tars completed a regular season sweep of rival Tampa on Wednesday, defeating the Spartans 75-60. Rollins now stands at 11-10 on the year, with a 7-6 record in SSC play.
It was all Tars early on as they jumped out to an 11-0 lead to start the game.
Hutton Yenor and
Matheus Silveira were responsible for all of those early points, highlighted by a monster jam from Yenor. Tampa fought hard to come back though, and pulled all the way within four at 21-17 at the eight-minute media timeout. Mykah Brown led the charge on offense for the Spartans. A big three from
Cameron Corcoran put the momentum back on Rollins' side, which was then extrapolated with a
Cade Long triple. In the final two-and-a-half minutes of the first half, Rollins went on a 9-0 run to close things out, leading 37-21 at the break.
Silveira once again led the offensive attack in the second half, scoring six of the Tars' first eight points. Long then added a pair of makes, followed by a highlight reel steal and slam from Yenor to put Rollins up 51-32. Rollins did a great job maintaining their advantage for the remainder of the half, keeping a double-digit lead for the rest of the game.
Jaden Frazier scored the last bucket of the game with a nice turnaround shot in the paint to make the final of 75-60.
Yenor led the Tars with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 steals. Three others ... Silveira (16), Long (14), and Marion (12) ... finished in double digit scoring.
Rollins will take on the Barry Buccaneers next, this Saturday February 4th. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 at Warden Arena following the women's game.
