WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (December 2, 2023) - A tough shooting night proved to be too much of an obstacle for Rollins as they fell 85-70 to Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday. The Tars now stand at 3-4, 0-2 SSC while the Sailfish improve to 7-1, 2-0 SSC.
Rollins missed their first seven attempts from the floor, with cade Long breaking the streak at 14:31 in the game on a layup. The Tars were down 14-3 at that point, and would not be able to chip away at the Sailfish lead for the remainder of the half. However, they would end the half on a high note, scoring eight consecutive points and holding the Fish without a point for the last 3:38 of the first. The score was 33-22 at halftime.
Part of the issue for Rollins was shots from beyond the three-point line. The Tars were 0-9 from distance in the first half. They also only managed 10-17 from the free throw line.
Rollins showed significant improvement in the second half. They made three times as many shots in the final twenty minutes while shooting 50% from the floor.
Dylan Wolle provided a nice spark off the bench, pouring in twelve points in just eleven minutes.
Unfortunately, any attempt at a rally was stymied by a shot from Palm Beach Atlantic. They got as close as nine points away, but could not improve on the number. The Sailfish would end up with a 85-70 win.
Matheus Silveira was the leading scorer for Rollins with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Jack Kronuage chipped in ten points as well.
The Tars will face finals this week before hitting the court again on Saturday December 9 against Lynn. Tipoff is scheduled for 4pm after the women's game in Winter Park.
