WINTER PARK, Fla. (Nov. 17, 2023) – The Rollins volleyball team earned a big win on Friday night, taking down Nova Southeastern in five sets, 25-23, 19-25, 23-25, 25-22, 15-10. The win evens the Tars' record at 15-15 overall, 7-12 in SSC matches, while the Sharks drop to 18-10, 11-8 in conference play.
Jadyn Troutman led all players with 15 kills and added four blocks (one solo), while
Lana Gerard tallied 13 kills and a match-high 16 digs and
Molly Norris chipped in with 11 kills and four blocks.
Natalie Horsley had a match-leading 49 assists to go along with five kills and five digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One
- Rollins won the first four points of the match and quickly pushed its lead to 8-3.
- The Sharks chipped away, getting to within a point at 13-12, but the Tars continued to hold on to the lead.
- The margin swayed between four points and one points numerous times, but NSU was never able to draw level, and a Troutman kill secured the opening set at 25-23 for Rollins.
Set Two
- Nova Southeastern got the jump in set two, running out to a 13-5 advantage.
- An 8-2 rally brought the Tars to within two at 15-13, but the Sharks pulled away late to earn a 25-19 win to knot the match at 1-1.
Set Three
- The third set saw Rollins go on a 6-2 run to take an early 8-6 lead, and then use a 7-2 burst to push the lead to 15-10.
- NSU rallied to even things at 18, and a few points later the visitors slipped ahead, 23-21.
- After Rollins won the next two points to tie it at 23, Nova Southeastern grabbed the final two points to win the set, 25-23, taking a 2-1 lead.
Set Four
- The Blue and Gold took an early 4-1 lead in the fourth, and later scored four straight points to go up 11-7.
- A 3-0 run for NSU gave it a 16-15 advantage, but a 4-0 response for the Tars put them back in front, 19-16.
- A block from Norris and Troutman put Rollins comfortably ahead, 23-19, and the Tars were able to hang on for a 25-22 win to send the match to a fifth set.
Set Five
- Rollins raced out to a 5-2 lead in the fifth, only to see the Sharks fight back to tie it up at six.
- A Begley kill then sparked a 4-0 run that put the Tars in the driver's seat, leading 10-6.
- After trading sideouts for the next eight points, Rollins had earned match point at 14-10, and the Tars wasted no time with Begley putting down a kill on the next rally to win the set, 15-10.
UP NEXT:
The Tars will return to the court tomorrow at 4 p.m. to take on Palm Beach Atlantic. Rollins will celebrate Senior Day prior to the match, with the senior class being honored in a pre-match ceremony.
