LAKELAND, Fla. (October 7, 2023) - Florida Southern shut out Rolllins 3-0 on Saturday night, handing the Tars their first loss of the season. Rollins is now 5-1-3 and 2-1-1 in SSC play, while the Mocs improve to 4-2-4 and 2-0-3 SSC.
A quick strike from the Mocs put Rollins in an early hole. In the fifth minute, Kyle Carr fed Mathias Kjolner, who beat
Max Walker to give Southern a 1-0 lead.Â
Ten minutes later, a yellow card was given to the Tars'
Patrick Horan. The ensuing free kick from Carr was saved, but the Mocs maintained possession, and on the second chance, Carr would find the back of the net to make it 2-0. Â
Rollins had a great chance in the 33rd minute, but
Jorge Lameiras hit the woodwork, missing a goal by inches. The Mocs would take the 2-0 lead into halftime.Â
Again, the Mocs went to work early after the kickoff. Just 96 seconds into the second half, Luca Bernoth scored the third goal of the game.
From the, Florida Southern focused on defense, and kept the Tars from getting any quality looks for the majority of the half. In the last five minutes, it was a barrage of shots as the Tars put four strikes on target, but each one was saved by AJ Pearce.Â
The loss was Rollins' first of the year, and also the first time that the Tars failed to score in a match this season. Lameiras also saw his games with a goal streak snapped at eight.Â
Next up for Rollins is a home match against Barry on Saturday, Ovtober 14. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 pm.Â
