ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (October 21, 2023) - Women's soccer is hot, picking up their fourth win in a row, this time defeating the Eckerd Tritons 1-0 on Saturday. The Tars now stand at 8-4-3 on the year with a 5-2-1 record in the SSC. The Tritons moved to 8-6-1, 4-3-1 SSC.
The game started out aggressively for both teams from the opening kick as both goalies had to earn a save within eight minutes. The Tars nearly go ton the board in the tenth minute when
Kayla Park lined up a shot, but it it the goal frame, missing by inches. Just three minutes later, both
Jessie Wade and
Ryland McGratty had shots on target, but they were stopped by Brooke Bisko.
Rollins would continue their attack for the first half, but could not capitalize as the half came to an end tied nil-nil. In the opening frame, the Tars outshot the Tritons 12-5, putting six of those chances on goal.
After each team rattled off a shot on early in the second, things slowed way down as the two teams switched to chess mode, waiting for the prime opportunity to strike again. From the 48th to the 68th minute, only two shots were taken by both teams combined.
The Tars finally broke through with only seven minutes to go when
Blaire Pressley found
Kayla Park for an open look. The SSC leading scorer did her job, beating Bisko for the lone goal of the match.
The goal was Park's eleventh of the year, the most in the SSC and the eighth-most in NCAA Division II.
Lauren Mehos had four saves in goal and posted her fifth clean sheet of the season. The win was the Tars fourth in a row, and they now sit in third-place in the conference standings.
Next up for Rollins is a massive home game against second-place Florida Tech. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 25.
