Park's Goal Pushes Tars Past Bucs

Rollins defeated Barry 1-0 on Saturday evening

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (October 14, 2023) - Rollins secured their second consecutive victory on Saturday night, defeating the Barry Buccaneers 1-0. The win moves Rollins to 6-4-3 overall and 3-2-1 in SSC play. Barry drops to 3-6-3 and 1-4-2 in the SSC.

Rollins was able to put a shot on target early when Lexie Cooper took a shot four minutes into the game, but it was saved by Maya Caon. Peyton Massie and Kayla Park added shots soon after as well, but they missed wide.

Minutes later, Ryland McGratty and Park each took a chance, but Caon saved both attempts.

The Bucs took their first on goal attempt in the 28th minute, but Lauren Mehos was able to stop it with ease.

Near the end of the first half, there was a scrum for the ball at midfield. It eventually found the foot of Lexie Cooper, who sent a perfect through ball past a pair of Bucs defenders to a streaking Kaya Park. She ripped a shot to the bottom right of the net, and powered it through a touch from the Barry keeper to score the first and only goal of the game.

The Tars defense played amazingly well yet again, limiting Barry to only one shot on goal in the second half as they held on for the win.

Park's goal was her ninth of the season, more than any other player in the Sunshine State Conference. The shutout was Mehos' fourth of the year; she registered two saves in the match.

Next up for the Tars is a home match in Winter Park against Nova Southeastern. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 18.
